Horizons Day Nursery & Pre-School
A place to learn and grow.
Every Child Matters and the EYFS Curriculum
Every Child Matters
At Horizons Day Nursery & Pre-School we recognise that every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfil their potential to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up. We aim to give all our children the opportunity to succeed and reach the highest level of personal achievement by following the principles of the Every Child Matters ('ECM') Five Outcomes which are:
-
Being Healthy
-
Staying Safe
-
Enjoying and Achieving
-
Making a Positive Contribution
-
Developing Skills for the Future
Our aim is to offer a broad and balanced curriculum in which children are active learners and will leave our nurseries with both self-assurance and independence. Parents are involved with learning and children’s views are considered.
The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
Our Nursery day is structured to provide a wide range of developmental experiences as outlined by the Early Years Foundation Stage (‘EYFS') curriculum. Each day the children participate in activities comprising all seven areas of prime and specific development which are:
Prime
-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
-
Communication and Language
-
Physical Development
Specific
-
Mathematics
-
Literacy
-
Understanding the World
-
Expressive arts and Design
Special Educational Needs / Disability
At Horizons Day Nursery we provide an enabling environment where all children, including those with special educational needs, are supported to reach their full potential in a positive and caring environment. We actively promote high standards, inclusion and equal opportunities and value parent/carer input.
Children with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) have difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn than most children of the same age. They may need extra help in areas of their development such as communication, physical skills, learning or behaviour. This will be achieved by adapting our routine, organising our resources and environment to allow all children to participate and reach their full potential, planning activities which are differentiated to meet the individual needs of SEND children so they can enjoy and achieve through participation.
We have a Special Education Needs Co-ordinator and a Behaviour Co0ordinator. Children with Special Needs / Disability will be supported by working with parents / carers and outside agencies.
Outdoor Play
Outdoor provision is an essential part of a child’s daily environment and life at Horizons Day.
The curriculum is brought alive through outdoor experiences and exploration. Children have daily access to a secure and enclosed garden where a myriad of activities take place. In addition; we take walks to the local parks, library, market and shops etc. Parents and carers are welcome to participate in these outings.
